My name is Bill Fisher. I\u2019m Chair of the IEEE GameSIG and one of the world\u2019s first video game programmers.<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve been running my own video game company \u2013 and hiring lots of new grads \u2013 for almost 40 years.<\/p>\n
Do you want to know how to get my attention and make your resume stand out<\/strong> in a huge pile of incoming lookalikes?<\/p>\n If your resume says \u201cFinalist \u2013 IEEE GameSIG Showcase 2023\u201d, it tells me a lot about your character.<\/p>\n It tells me more than your GPA, more than the list of tools, languages, or platforms you know how to use. It tells me that you can work as part of a team<\/strong> and that you can finish what you start<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Which would you rather put on your resume: a job at a coffee shop or one that\u2019s directly related to your major and your career goals?<\/p>\n Every resume talks about the school you go to, the classes you take, and maybe a few personal details. But these are only the bare minimum of what I want to see. By themselves, they say very little. What speaks loudly is your willingness to take initiative and do more than just that minimum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n I want to see:<\/p>\n It doesn\u2019t even have to be complete. As long as you can actually do it and then explain why you did it, you\u2019re well on your way to the top of that heap of resumes.<\/p>\n So \u2013 how can you do that?<\/p>\n Simple. Sign up for the next IEEE GameSIG Showcase event.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n If you\u2019re already doing a game as a class project, or you created a concept in a game jam that you want to develop, enter our competition! You have nothing to lose and a life-changing career to gain.<\/p>\n As long as you and your teammates are in college or high school with original code, you\u2019re good!<\/p>\n You don\u2019t even need final, fancy artwork, sound, or music. And you don\u2019t all need to be from the same school. Do what you do, and do it well. That\u2019s all we ask.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n It\u2019s easy to get started.
